Objective: E/LA 9.R.9: By the end of grade 9, read and comprehend Literature, including stories, dramas, and poems, in the grades 9-10 text complexity band proficiently, with scaffolding as needed at the high end of the range.
- Pass out the Chapter 16 “packet” - journal prompt + reading guide - to students. Give 10 minutes for students to write the journal prompt. After 10 minutes, tell them to stop, put 3 dots, and then proofread/edit. After 4 minutes, tell students to trade their journal prompt with a peer and read it and circle any mistakes. Give 4 minutes for this. Then let the pairs talk for 3 minutes about what they wrote while you walk around and listen/keep kids on task.
- Students will read independently Chapter 16 in class, complete the reading guide in complete sentences, and then turn at the end of class.
- If students finish early, they may go back and read a chapter they skipped.
