Day 24 - Periods 2 & 6, Monday, March 3 AND Periods 1, 4, & 5 Tuesday, 3/4

Objective: Read closely to comprehend a challenging text.

Bellwork:
Paraphrase this quote:

Farewell. God knows when we shall meet again.
I have a faint cold fear thrills through my veins      fainting cold fear rushing
That almost freezes up the heat of life.                freezes me to death
- Juliet, 4.3.14
My Example:

What if it be a poison, which the Friar
Subtly hath ministered to have me dead,
Lest in this marriage he should be dishonored
Because he married me before to Romeo?
I fear it is, and yet methinks it should not,
For he hath still been tried a holy man.
 - Juliet, 4.3.25

In Act 4 of Romeo and Juliet, Juliet is worrying that the contents of the vial that the Friar gave her is really poison so that the Friar isn’t caught for marrying Juliet & Romeo; because she trusts the Friar and he is a holy man, Juliet decides it isn’t poison, and she drinks it.
Today's Plan:

  1. Instagram time!!

  2. Give students a few minutes to read through their R & J returned papers.

  3. Summarize Act 4, Scenes 2 & 3 by having students sit at my desk and use the Elmo to ask their questions. Discuss what type of question has been asked and what the answer is.

  4. Act 4, Scene 4 & 5 - Perform as a Reader's Theater (Absent students, pick up a copy from the cart under the flag, read, and do Step 5)

  5. Close reading: Write 4 questions, one of each type of question (use your notes), on an index card. Then we’ll do a give one/get one - write answers on index card, citing evidence from the text. I will collect one per student as an Exit Card.

  6. HW: Act 5 Vocab (Absent students, pick up a copy from the cart under the flag - due next class)
