Day 20 Periods 1, 4, & 5 TH 9/12 AND Periods 2 & 6 W 9/11: : Day 2 to write Interview Narrative

Objective: Write an interview narrative, applying best writing skills and creating voice.
 
1.     Develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach, focusing on addressing what is most significant for a specific purpose and audience.
2.     Use various types of phrases and clauses to convey specific meanings and add variety and interest to writing or presentations.
3.     Use a semicolon to link two or more closely related independent clauses

 
Today's plan:
  1. "Stations" are set up for said, verbs, & adjectives
  2. Let's take a look at student models for this narrative essay.
  3. Writing time - get out your spiral notebook & turn to pages 60-61 of your Springboard (We're on Steps 6 & 7 today)
  4. I'll show you how to write appositives (Ex. English, my favorite subject, is fun.)

a. Imagery: Write vivid descriptions. Use a simile!)

b. Include direct & indirect quotes in your essay.
Indirect: She shared that she felt thrilled when her name was finally called.

Direct: She shared, "I couldn't believe my name was finally called. After all that work!"

c. Sentence variety: Your goal is to write one of each type of sentence (Use your Writer's Craft in your spiral!):

  1. compound: use fanboys and/or a semicolon to combine 2 sentences.
  2. complex: one base sentence (independent clause) + one or more dependent phrase or clause
  3. balanced: use a fanboy or a semicolon to combine 2 balanced/parallel sentences.
  4. periodic: Opener, base sentence.
  5. cumulative: Base sentence, closers.
