Monologue - mono = one logue = word or speech
A speech by one character in a play.
The next time your mom yells at you and goes on and on this is a monologue.
Drama - a play with a serious topic or situation.
all movie scripts look like a play.
Think of an example of a movie that is a drama.
Example from Thomas - “Pretty Little Liars”
Protagonist - The central character ; the one involved in the main conflict; the one we root for. (protagonist is the one you like).
Analogy - Comparing 2 things to make something clearer or more understandable.

Tragedy - A tragedy is a dramatic play that tells the story of a character or characters who meets an untimely death or downfall. It really is a technical definition.
Untimely means they are very young and not ready to leave the earth yet.
Shakespearean sonnet - rhyme scheme with 14 lines and 10 syllables per line.
On unit 4 test it says what kind of rhyme scheme is this. You count 14 lines and know it is a Shakespearean sonnet.
Theme - unrequited love
unrequited means unreturned love.
In the beginning Romeo doesn’t love Juliet to begin with. He is in love with someone else.
Subtext - sub = under like a submarine
The story below the surface; what’s really going on.
personification - literary term, figure of speech that gives human qualities to an animal, object.
Character foil - A character who contrasts with another character (usually the protagonist) in order to highlight certain characteristics of the other character.
